In 2 Corinthians 8 we’re told that the churches in Macedonia gave sacrificially because of their abundance of joy in the Lord. We believe this is an example for all Christians to follow. God has given us life, breath, and everything (Acts 17). And more importantly, He has given us His Son, and mercy, grace, life, and peace in Him. Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us (Ephesians 5:2). We are not our own, for we were bought with the blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Therefore, everything we are and everything we have should be stewarded wisely, and leveraged for the glory of God and the good of His people. So, while seeking to be good stewards in all of life, we should also seek to give sacrificially to the local church and to the mission of the church.
From the tithes of Abraham to the tithes of Israel in and through the tribute offering and the like, God’s people have always responded to God’s covenant faithfulness by giving tithes and offerings. God’s Word has done its proper work in our lives when we, by the Spirit and from the heart, offer ourselves as well as our possessions and works to God. This is an act of worship. As a sign of her thankful dedication to the Lord, the Church offers to the Father a tenth of what God has given her along with any freewill offerings over and above the tenth required by God. This is a corporate offering of ourselves as well as the work of our hands back to God in devotion and gratitude as a whole. Being a faithful steward means giving a tenth back to God, but also leveraging all for the glory of God, the good of God’s people, and the life of God’s world.
We have two primary ways of giving at CRC: we have an offering box near the entry doors of our sanctuary that you can drop your offering into at any time, or you can give online by clicking the button below.
